"The Abilene Fire Department responds to fires in the City of Abilene and Grant Township. The Fire Rescue Section makes up the largest portion of the department. Abilene is a combination department that operates on a three-shift system of 24-48, each shift works 24 hours on-duty followed by 48 hours off-duty. Each shift is staffed with 2 full time firefighters to cross staff the apparatus that respond from 1 station.
