Founded in 1973, the Wichita Airport Police & Fire Division provides aircraft rescue firefighting, medical, and police services to the Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. The Division responds to an area of 3,000 acres; which includes parking, manufacturing, hotels, terminal, runways, taxiways, and operation ramps. The Division responds to around 250-300 alarms/yr with 10 personnel assigned to each of the three 24 hour shifts. The Division operates 5 ARFF units, 3 patrol trucks, and numerous support vehicles out of one station. The airport averages about 40 aircraft operations a day. During 2018, 1,665,116 passengers used the facility. The airport is an index C airport.
