The Riley Fire Department was established in 1923 as a volunteer department and consolidated with Riley County Fire District 1 in 2026. The department served around 1,000 residents, over 10 businesses, and the U.S.D 378 Riley County School District. They provided mutual aid to surrounding departments and averaged around 25 fire calls a year until their closing.
