Everest Fire was organized in 1925, Washington Township Fire Department was organized in 1954. Both departments have always been staffed by the same group of people, just separate equipment. The two departments merged in 2023. They run around 100 calls per year. They cover Washington Township and the town of Everest in Brown County, and a portion of Grasshopper Township in Atchison County. They cover 63 square miles and around 550 people. There are currently 23 members and they are 100% volunteer.
