Ellsworth Fire Department

Ellsworth Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1877. They currently have 43 active members, all Volunteer including the Fire Chief. The department covers 222 Square miles, including the city of Ellsworth, for fire coverage. They provide rescue and Hazmat coverage for all of Ellsworth County and cover 22 miles of Interstate 70. They average 175 calls a year.

The department maintains 29 pieces of apparatus and equipment, including 5 Class A Engines, housed in 2 stations located across the street from each other. The Fire Department has a total of 31,620 gallons of water on wheels. They have 7 sets of both hydraulic and battery powered extrication rescue tools located on 7 different apparatus. All former military trucks were converted for fire use by EVFD members with assistance from the Ellsworth Correctional facility inmates.
